So Happy the Site is Live!

Well, this has been on my wish list for quite awhile… and now look… here we are! There is still work to be done and specifics to add, but I’m happy that you can finally take a peek at what has been in the works. So… why even have a website when the truth is I get so attached to my wood-turned bowls that it’s hard to part with them? So glad you asked!

I’m now booking virtual demos! Known as IRDs (Interactive Remote Demos ), they’re a great way, during this time of Covid-prevention isolation, to be with friends via Zoom and share all we’re creating. I’m especially excited about something I’ve been working toward for a few years now, but is actually an ancient art form: fused-wax painting!

In the traditional art world, it’s known as “encaustic” painting, but that seemed to be confusing to some of my demo attendees, since the last thing we want on our bowls or works of art is anything “caustic.” Rest assured, there’s nothing caustic about this. In fact, it’s simply a paint made of heated beeswax, damar resin (basically tree sap) and pigment! There’s a process, naturally, and fusing melted wax onto a curved surface certainly introduces challenges that traditional encaustic painters don’t face, but that’s why I’m here to teach you! I’ve enjoyed presenting to a number of fine art and woodturning clubs around the world.

I hope some of you will be as eager to learn as I have been. The opportunity for creativity and beauty is only as limited as your imagination.

If you ever wanna chat about my work, woodturning in general or book a demo, shoot me a note on the Contact page and I’ll get in touch as soon as I can. :) Be sure to sign up for the newsletter to join my Almost Firewood fam!

Thanks for visiting my site and becoming a treasured part of my art journey!
